Eucharistic Ministers

“Taste and see how good the Lord is.”

Lay men and women assist the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Bishops, priests, deacons (and instituted acolytes who are seminarians on the road to priesthood) are the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion as a result of their being ordained (or about to be ordained) in the Sacrament of Holy Orders. To not make the distribution of Holy Communion unduly long, lay men and women are invited to assist the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. These assisting ministers are rightly called Extraordinary Min-isters of Holy Communion. The term, Eucharistic Ministers or EM, is an in-accurate term, since the presiding priest is the prime Eucharistic Minister. Baptized and Confirmed lay men and women in good standing in the church are welcome to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Commun-ion. Training and formation in the ministry is provided.
